The following forms are required to be completed prior to placement.
The daycare is open Monday to Friday from 7:30-5:30 p.m. Please notify us by your scheduled arrival time if your child will not be arriving for the day or if you will be late in arriving. Our day is scheduled around everyone's expected arrival time.
1. Please remember fees are not based on actual time the child is in care. Since childcare laws only allow only a certain number of daycare slots, you are paying for the spot in that your child is occupying. Missed days due to illness, statutory holidays or family vacations still require full fees paid to keep your child's space.
2. Payment is due on the first of each month. Your fees pay for wages insurance, training, food, toys, equipment, art supplies and all of the other items that your child will use.
Discipline or guiding children's behaviour is intended to help children become self-disciplined as they learn appropriate and acceptable behavior patterns. These methods of guiding behaviour are continuous. Guiding behavior is done while appropriate behaviour is occurring, as well as before, during and after socially unacceptable behaviour is displayed. The goal is to assist children in developing respect, self control, self confidence and sensitivity in their interactions with others.
Staff members at Little Dreamers will consider the following factors that may influence children's behaviour.
- each child is an unique individual
- children's behaviour reflects their level of development
- children's experiences in their family and culture influences their behaviour patterns
Enough material that are age appropriate and engaging
- Space and set up can encourage or discourage desired behaviour
- caregivers committed to nurturing and guiding young children
- Schedules, routines and transitions serve as a framework from which children gain trust, security and order
- establish clear, consistent and simple limits
- offer straightforward explanations for limits
- state in a positive way rather than in a negative way
- focus on behaviour rather than on the child
- state what is expected
- provide choices
- allow children time to respond
- reinforce appropriate behaviour both in words and gestures
- Gain a child's attention
- Use proximity and touch
- Remind
- Redirect and divert when appropriate
- Acknowledge feeling before setting limits
- Model problem-solving skills
- Offer appropriate choices
- Use natural and logical consequences
- Provide opportunities for children to make amends
When it is necessary to intervene when challenging behaviours occur staff will use the following strategies
1. Re direction - offering children a substitute toy or activity may quickly resolve problems or conflicts
2. Time away – providing children with the opportunity for time away from the group. This offers children the time and space to calm down and regain control of their emotions. Allow the child to determine when they are ready to participate in activities with the group again. Children learn self control when they feel encouraged, when they feel they belong and when they feel valued
